A Weston ballerina is taking a step to stardom by landing the lead role in the Plymouth Ballet Company's production of The Nutcracker in Massachusetts.

Malory Butler, 11, a student at Liana Navarro's Selected Workshop in Miami, visited Plymouth this summer to take part in the company's intensive ballet program in preparation for the demanding role.

''Malory was invited to perform the role of Clara and will be the only dancer who is not local to the Boston and Plymouth area,'' said her mom, Robynne. ``It's an accolade. It's the role everyone wants.''
