Dashing gent life of party
Drosselmeyer brings many gifts to Ballet Arlington's 'Nutcracker'
By MARGARET PUTNAM / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News

ARLINGTON – The Nutcracker given by Ballet Arlington on Friday night was neither fish nor fowl. The sets were plain, the Texas Chamber Orchestra limp. The dancing ranged from delightful to dull.
The production does have its charms. Seldom will you find a more amusing Drosselmeyer (danced with theatrical flair by Nikolai Semikov).
When Drosselmeyer first appears, he wears a dark cape and a mask shaped like a bird's beak. He's stretched out, like a bird. The mask comes off, and whatever was frightening and strange about him disappears, and he becomes a figure of comic exuberance.
click for more
