HOLIDAY HITS

Barefoot in Dallas

December dance isn't only about sugarplums and children's dreams. For the second year in a row, the Barefoot Brigade, a consortium of Fort Worth-Dallas modern dance companies, choreographers and independent dancers, presents the Barefoot Brigade Dance Festival, including appearances by Fort Worth's JAADE Dance Theatre and Contemporary Dance/Fort Worth. Expect choreographic examination of human relationships...

Ballet 'Nut'
Watauga troupe adds fourth performance to annual run of holiday classic
By Terry Lee Goodrich
Star-Telegram Staff Writer

Quote:
Santa Claus isn't the only mysterious fellow who doles out gifts on Christmas Eve.

At least, not in The Nutcracker. During the holiday ballet, magician Herr Drosselmeyer shows up at a holiday party with gifts for the children -- including a nutcracker for a little girl.

But this is no ordinary nutcracker, as those who love this ballet know and those who attend for the first time will find out.

Chamberlain Ballet moves 'Nutcracker' to Eisemann Center
12/01/2002

By MARGARET PUTNAM / The Dallas Morning News

Quote:
RICHARDSON – No Nutcracker is ever the same. Even the same company alters productions year to year. There's always a new crop of children, a different Dewdrop, more-elaborate costumes, added props, more fog, less snow.

The big change for Chamberlain Ballet's Nutcracker was its venue – the smart new Charles W. Eisemann Center, after years at McFarlin Auditorium 13 miles away.

Julie Kent and Damian Woetzel were unified and well-matched in technical perfection as they added to the mounting excitement Saturday in The Nutcracker at Lewisville High School.

Quote:
LEWISVILLE – Three down and 27 to go. Well, maybe not 27.

The onslaught of The Nutcracker is in full sway, and the question is: Which to see?

That's easy when it comes to LakeCities Ballet Theatre, which has some major advantages: the Lewisville Lake Symphony that gives Tchaikovsky's glorious music full due and a fabulous Sugarplum Fairy and Cavalier.

Ballet will be tough to miss
Four companies planning 'Nutcracker' shows at Eisemann

11/28/2002

By SARAH POST / The Dallas Morning News

Quote:
Four dance companies, four weekends and four different versions of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker ballet are on their way – each at the Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts and Corporate Presentations.

"It's hard to keep all these Nutcrackers straight," said Kathy Willsey, executive director of Dallas Repertoire Ballet and vice president of philanthropy for the Richardson Council of the Arts.

Review: 'Nutcracker' takes a youthful spin
New World Ballet's lovely costumes, sets enhance budding talent

Quote:
RICHARDSON – For a nonprofessional ballet company, The Nutcracker can be hit and miss. Sometimes the Snowflakes are awkward, the party adults stiff, the battle scene timid.

Saturday night at the Eisemann Center, New World Ballet had its share of the ordinary, the agreeable, and one memorable delight. That delight came in unexpected quarters, namely in the Mirlitons.
