Charleston Ballet captures magic of 'The Nutcracker'
BY DOTTIE ASHLEY of The Charleston Post and Courier
Highlights of the Charleston Ballet Theatre's 2001 performance of "The Nutcracker" were many. They included spectacular fish dives by Phyllis Rothwell Armes as the Sugar Plum Fairy, the leaps of Frank Affrunti as her Cavalier, the sensual, exotic moves of Janet Viemiester and Robert Greer as Coffee from Arabia, and the quick- silver flips by Mother Ginger's jesters.
The crowd that filled about 75 percent of the Gaillard Auditorium definitely seemed to enjoy the choreography of Jill Eathorne Bahr and the lively accompaniment by the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by associate conductor Bundit Ungrangsee.
click for more
