Dana Stubblefield had a problem, surely one that never troubled Mikhail Baryshnikov.

The San Francisco 49ers' 6-foot-2, 315-pound defensive tackle was trying to squeeze into an extra-large red T-shirt for his ballet role as a solider in "All-Star Night at the Nutcracker."

A review from the Chronicle.

Oakland 'Nutcracker' is a charmer
Guidi ballet proves to be kid-friendly

Octavio Roca, Chronicle Dance Critic

The scene was giddy, to say the least: Oakland Ballet opened its "Nutcracker" at the Paramount Theatre this year with a student matinee Thursday morning. It runs through Christmas Eve and judging by the cheers and giggles of the thousand or so schoolkids at the premiere, the beloved production by Ronn Guidi is a hit.

A Night of Dancing Sugar Plums and Defensive Tackles _ All for Charity
By JANIE McCAULEY/AP Sports Writer

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Shawn Estes, right, and St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa, second from right, practice their swordsmanship during a rehearsal for All-Star Night at the Nutcracker at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, Calif., on Friday, Dec. 13, 2002. Estes and LaRussa were among a group of San Francisco Bay Area athletes and other celebrities that performed in the Oakland Ballet's Christmas production. Others in photo are unidentified. Oakland Ballet's guest dancers give `Nutcracker' needed strength
By Anita Amirrezvani
Mercury News

The Oakland Ballet's ``Nutcracker'' has featured stronger dancers in past years and is an intimate production this time around, with a smaller cast than some other professional companies use. But it still satisfies with talented guest artists, clever choreography (by Ronn Guidi) and moments sure to please the kids. It continues through Christmas Eve at the exquisite Paramount Theatre.

Mary Ellen Hunt, Contra Costa Times

High spirits and charm marked Oakland Ballet's "All-Star Night" opening of Ronn Guidi's "Nutcracker," setting it apart from garden-variety versions of the ballet and giving this holiday staple the warmth of a cheery bedtime story.
