Angie Hancock earns role with Moscow Ballet
From The Tarkio Avalanche (Missouri) - now there's a name for a newspaper.

When the Moscow Ballet presents The Great Russian Nutcracker at Missouri Theatre in St. Joseph, MO on November 17, Angela Hancock, 15, of Tarkio will be on stage. Angela is a student at Shall We Dance in Auburn, NE. She was chosen in an open audition for her dancing ability and spirit.

The students will be part of a 10th anniversary production presented by Saturn’s L-Series that features 50 top Russian artists, 300 gorgeous costumes and storybook sets inspired by traditional Russian art.

Four youths to perform with Moscow Ballet at Wartburg
By: Janell Bradley for Fayette County on-line (Iowa)

Once they convinced their parents that missing a day or two of school in exchange for being a part of a ballet production with Russian ballerinas would be an opportunity of a lifetime, four little women ages 8-10 had accomplished half the challenge to acquiring roles in Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker.

Since Moscow Ballet's first U.S. tour, local children have been chosen by audition in each performance city, to fill the roles of the children. On average, 60 children are selected per city. This being the Moscow Ballet's 10th anniverary year, they will at the conclusion of their performances, have given more than 39,000 children a chance to perform amongst top professionals.

Review: 'Nutcracker' has a new spin
Moscow Ballet on tour despite terrorist strike

11/20/2002

The Sugarplum Fairy who will dance this weekend in Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker is still recovering from shock. The day before she and dozens of other dancers departed for their two-month tour of the United States, a terrorist drama in Moscow unfolded. More than 800 hostages were held for 58 hours in a theater by Chechen rebels before Russian troops stormed the building, leaving 128 hostages and 41 rebels dead.

Review: Russian 'Nutcracker' misses mark
Moscow Ballet unwraps surprises, but the effort falls short

11/24/2002

By MARGARET PUTNAM / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News

Quote:
Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker has many charms, but drama is not one of them.

Offering the first Nutcracker of a busy season, Moscow Ballet sailed into the fray with its usual mix of terrific dancing, handsome sets, extraneous children and weak plot.

Ballet reveals Russian mastery

Sean Kelly, Rapid City Journal

Rapid City was treated to world-class dancing on Sunday. The technical clarity, bravura and partnering by the Moscow Ballet's performance of the "Great Russian Nutcracker" were the ultimate examples of Russian mastery of the classical ballet art form.

Curiosity seemed reason enough to see what the land of the original "Nutcracker" was sending our way, or more precisely, to Whitman Hall at Brooklyn College, where the Moscow Ballet performed "The Great Russian Nutcracker" on Sunday under the auspices of the Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts.
