Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley `Nutcracker' ticket sales better than expected

Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley sold more than 24,000 tickets to its ``Nutcracker'' this year, bringing in more than $900,000, company CEO Charles Hart announced today.
The number, though not yet final, fell well short of the $1.2 million budgeted for ``Nutcracker'' sales before Hart began his job in September -- and at this point appears smaller than the amount raised by the annual holiday show the year before, when a drop off triggered a financial crisis for the troupe. But Hart said the sales were better than he anticipated.
``We were expecting as low as $800,000 to $850,000,'' he said, calling the budgeted amount ``a very optimistic figure, knowing what they did last year and in light of the economy.'' The performances at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts ended Sunday. click for more
