The Great Russian Nutcracker
from The Detroit News

HOWELL -- Collin Flagler, 9, recently met an icon of artful strength and grace: a Russian ballerina.

She leaped and twirled across the tiny stage in his school cafeteria at Southeast Elementary. "That was very athletic. It was very good," Collin said. "I like it because she came from a different country, from a very far away place just to see our school and show us that stuff. That was very nice."

Natalya Nikolaevna Getman, a soloist with the Moscow Ballet Company, is crossing the United States to audition ballet students for her company's tenth anniversary Great Russian Nutcracker tour.

The tour is sponsored by Saturn L-Series and includes provision for free school assemblies in
the cities where "The Nutcracker" will be performed.

By Deb Holland for The Rapid City Journal

RAPID CITY - The Moscow Ballet is hosting local auditions for the group's performance of "The Great Russian Nutcracker" in December at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center theater.

The show, scheduled for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, will incorporate 60 local children into the performance. Natalia Nikolivana Getman, a graduate of the Kirov School of Dance in St. Petersburg, Russia, will direct the children.

Producer Akiva Talmi said the touring company would cast 12 children for roles in five dance scenes in Act 1 as party children, mice, angels and snowflakes, and in Act 2 as pages in Russian, Arabian, French, Chinese and Spanish divertissements.
