My daughter is turning into a girl

For the first two years of my daughter's life, I had my sartorial way with her. I dressed her in little denim overalls and workboots, tasteful corduroy shift dresses and woolly tights. She looked quite divine, if I do say so myself.

Then she turned three and overnight became a monstrous girly-girl with passionate ideas of her own on matters of grooming and style. One morning, she sat up in bed and declared that her favourite colour was pink, that she did not want to wear jeans or any other species of trousers and that, if I knew what was good for me, I would purchase her a spangly princess dress-up gown just like the one her best friend had, pronto.
