What are you all doing for New Year's ??
I am making fresh warm biegnets with powdered sugar - but no chickory coffee or I will never get over the caffeine surge, and remember eating them at the Cafe du Monde in New Orleans.
I had the experience of spending New Year's Eve on Bourbon Street, in that city - that isn't the interesting part - the interesting part is being able to tell you that I survived it.
------------------
Approach life as a dancer approaches the barre, with grace and purpose.

[This message has been edited by Basheva (edited December 30, 2000).]

We (that is, me and my Dear Cavalier) will attend the soiree of a friend earlier in the evening. Then we may be heading to enjoy the music of friends - to which I will dance and the D.C. will tap his toe. Whatever we do, it'll be fun!
Hope everyone has a great (and safe) time 2000 out and 2001 in. Image

I'm going to be listening on the radio with a friend to a wonderful Alan Bennett play, '40 Years On' . Doubt I'll be up at midnight.
We thought about going to see some fireworks, but the weather in the UK at the moment is very cold and very wet and very windy. There's lots of dance in London, but the weather....
Happy New Year everyone. We've got 4 hours to go.
[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited December 31, 2000).]

For New Year's I rented "Center Stage" which turned out to be hysterically funny...or maybe it was the champagne that made it seem that way...it's all a blur... Happy New Year! We spent New Year's cooking beignets - watching my husband trying to roll the dough was "interesting" LOL
Then on New Year's day we walked on the beach - yes, the beach - this is San Diego - and that's what we do here on New Year's Day. It was after a great Mexican meal with lots of Mariachi music. Ole' !!!!

For New Year's we stayed home. Spent time with the animals, rode my horse, cooked a tasty shrimp dinner with my husband. And of course, drank champagne!
Basheva, Les roulez bontemps, all year long! How many beignets did you make?

Marie - we made one dozen - but they were quite small - about half the size of the beignets at the Cafe du Monde in New Orleans, nevertheless - we ate them all. It was a sweet beginning to the New Year!
(he started blaming the rolling pin...which in over 38 yrs. had never caused a problem before - I told him you don't "muscle" the dough - you roll it LOL)

Basheva -- I pourrrrrrrr my heart out about my "well-placed fat" and you talk of beignets -- Indeed!!!!!! I can tell you that New Year's in the Big Easy ain't always what it's cracked up to be. My fiance's mother and father took his 12-year-old son with them to the Smokies with other assorted relatives and they were supposed to be gone until last night -- we were looking forward to some QUIET, INTROSPECTIVE, CALM, PEACEFUL time together when at 8:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve, the door started pounding, the bell starting ringing -- the whole gang was back early because they couldn't take the cold. It was like a very UNFUNNY sitcom. Instead of cuddling up and enjoying the rare stillness and quiet, I was inundated with tales of Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum as only a 12-year-old boy could tell them. But he did stop at a Cracker Barrel restaurant on the way back with the gang where he purchased with the last of his spending money a red-headed angel which he held out to me, saying it reminded him of me because of her hair and because I was "angelic." The little crapper -- one could almost forgive him for crashing our little party for two, couldn't one?
[This message has been edited by Christina (edited January 02, 2001).]

Christina - you poured your heart out - and I poured back in my answer - and together we both had a pitcher full.
Christina if a 12 yr old boy told you all about his adventures - that means he likes you very much..they only talk to people they like. And, in about ten years while he is getting ready to spend a quiet New Year's eve with his favorite girl friend - you can return the favor......
