If the definition of choreography is planned movement - then wrestling can be characterized as such. I know that in ballets such as Romeo and Juliet, the sword fight scenes are choreographed. Or in the swashbuckling movies of sword fights.
I looked up the word "choreography" in the dictionary and it says "planned sequence of steps in a dance". So it remains to define "dance".
Well, wouldn't you know - I looked up "dance" in the dictionary and it says rhymical movement to music. I would disagree - the accompaniment could be simply a beat - such as clapping of hands. We would then have to define "music" as opposed to "beat"....oy vey.
But does dance have to have a rhythm?

But does dance have to have a rhythm? Good question Besheva. let me tell you about a dance i saw this spring, that had no music, no beat, only a dancer. here's how it went:
an announcer came out on stage, and told us what would happen. she said that each time we heard the sound of someone breathing into a microphone, the audience was to close their eyes. when we heard the sound of someone breathing out into the microphone, we opened our eyes. so the show started and we heard the breathing in, closed our eyes, breathing out, opened our eyes, and low and behold, one single male dancer was on stage! Magic!! then each time we closed/opened our eyes, he moved into either a different position, or location on the stage. at one point, he was to the side of the stage, and had nothing in his hand. then we closed/opened our eyes, he had a flower in his hand, and at each close/open, the flower eventually died. toward the end of the preformance, we closed/opened, and another person was on the stage. it really startled the audience. the whole preformance was about a man who eventually went insane. it was really interesting.
oh, about the wrestling. i'm so sorry to say this, but i like wrestling. I know, i'm lower than the humans- i'm subhuman!! AHHH!! please don't hate me!! AHHHH!. ok i'm done now.
kim
