oh, i LIKE this, i like this a LOT!

quote:
Here, men square dance on tractors.
......a bunch of men who
learned the square dance patterns by
pushing toy tractors across Mooney's *******
table.
The men have come a long way from January
1998, when they walked the dances -- holding
out their hands on imaginary steering wheels
and making tractor noises -- to learn the
steps .....
The cross-dressing element is especially
daring in the manly farming world.....
``We've traveled the world and have been on
all seven continents and we've never seen
anything like this,'' said the former Rev.
William Albach with his wife, Betty....

`You know, farming hasn't been all that
great,'' said Damon Mooney, a Nemaha
farmer who broached the idea to his buddies
as an event for the town's centennial last year.
``This has been a real stress reliever.''

`In the dance, all you can hear is Laurie's
calls and the tractor noise. Most of us are
deaf already -- at least our wives claim we
are,'' Davis said. ``What is kind of special is
that I know I can count on every one of those
guys to help me on my farm if something
happened.''

``When the farming gets bad, and the hogs
get mean, we go to Nemaha and practice
square dancing,'' said Schmidt, whose shirt
reads ``I holler, they foller.''

THANKS azlan! A truly wondrous happening. I particularly liked the woman who told the disbelieving store assistant that the 44" bra was for her boyfriend.

Ha ha ha ha ha! I enjoyed it too. It's funnier to know that these grown men take it so seriously.

I would love to have seen this:

quote:
The dancers, winking and blowing bubble gum, whip through several routines, their timing precise and patterns sharp. The mufflers sputter and gears grind as the dancers pass in a tight circle. The men's huge hands spin the tractors' steering wheels, pitching them in new directions with the speed of a carnival ride.

And really, kudos to Pamela J. Podger, the talented Chronicle Staff Writer, who brought the right sensibility to this story. She treated her subject with respect and the right sense of joy.

oh sorry! Windows 98 SE screensaver - given the ubiquitous nature of bill gates' creations, one is inclined to think every computer user knows of the same stuff...
sorry. this one has a nice green tractor ploughing up a yellow field in nice curves.... Image

Since we have some new members, I thought they might like this thread brought to their attention. Any more comments anyone?
