Image <P>Stravinsky in 1910 <BR>from the Diaghilev website <A HREF="http://www.dmu.ac.uk/~jafowler/diaghil.html" TARGET=_blank>http://www.dmu.ac.uk/~jafowler/diaghil.html</A> <P>A story from the BRB programme for the two Ashton programmes.<P>Ashton's 'Scenes de Ballet' was part of a 1944 review called 'The Seven Lively Arts', with the rest of the music by Cole Porter arranged by Robert Russell Bennett. <P>When the show was being previewed Stravinsky received a telegram, 'YOUR MUSIC GREAT SUCCESS STOP COULD BE SENSATIONAL SUCCESS IF YOU WOULD AUTHORIZE ROBERT RUSSELL BENNETT RETOUCH ORCHESTRATION STOP BENNETT ORCHESTRATES EVEN THE WORKS OF COLE PORTER STOP'<P>Stravinsky telegraphed back, 'SATISFIED WITH GREAT SUCCESS STOP'
