Basheva,I'm SERIOUSLY thinking about investing in a lightweight laptop myself. I have a feeling that once I'm in Chicagoland I'll be STILL traveling alot....how practical is it?Was yours very expensive? I'm thinking about getting a IBM version.

Angela - this non-technical woman (moi) is blessed with a husband who is an electrical engineer. So he was the one who did the research and chose the laptop. It basically does just about everything that my big computer does - as far as I can tell.
He tells me it is a Dell Notepad and cost $2700.00. I am sure there are many good makes and models out there...but I am ignorant of them. My husband did a LOT of research (actually I thought the research would go on FOREVER), before chosing this one.

I've had several notebooks. I'd stay away from Compaq Presarios (although their other product lines are pretty good). The one I've been happiest with has been my Gateway.

I should point out that this really is a dance-related discussion; everything I do for a show, except actually watching the light cues, is on the computer. I even write the cues on my laptop and then load them into the console.

------------------
Jeffrey E. Just for a different point of view on laptops. I use Macs and find them to be absolutely marvelous on the road, shooting and uploading images. The new iBooks are inexpensive and lightweight and fast!
Lara

THANKS LARA-I was thinking about a MAc at first....maybe you have helped me make up my mind! My goal is to try to take trips for courses AND to see different dance companies...so my lap will have to be light and efficient.

If you don't have an industry-specific application (or if your industry is graphics or music) then the Mac may well be the machine for you -- it's really a better computer.
There's much more software available for PCs, though.
[This message has been edited by salzberg (edited July 19, 2001).]
