My gardenias opened today, and the night blooming jasmine is scenting the evening air....it grows outside my bedroom window.
Now, if that blasted mockingbird would just keep quiet - I could enjoy the night blooming jasmine.....He tunes up at about 11 p.m. and sings till dawn from April to Sept.
I could feed that worthless cat to the bird...that might shut him up.
Sorry, I know this is supposed to be a positive spring time thread...back to the gardenias, I go.

In DC, the azaleas are blooming...there are pink and white bushes everywhere. Mid '70s, no rain. In fact, the weather here is pretty mild year round. If only people didn't freak out at the mention of a snowflake...it does get rather humid in summer, but it pretty much just means your skin doesn't dry out. Too bad the cherry blossoms peaked in March.
------------------
CygneDanois

I moved into my current apartment just as the leaves were falling off the trees last fall. I have a tiny backyard with some rather homely looking little trees in the backyard. How delighted I was this week when one morning I looked out and suddenly realized my back yard was full of snowball bushes, which had all bloomed simultaneously while I slept!

Basheva - you only have a noisy bird with which to contend: I have a lovesick/jealous siamese cat who wakes us every night at 2am roughly, with the most horrendous yowling. He normally sleeps at my feet but I have relegated him to the *******, where we hear it less.
He is jealous of a tiny kitten that I have been hand rearing for the past month with a bottle: I found her in the road, and she was about 10 days old then. Now thriving and lively, as my furniture will testify, and husband is eagerly awaiting the moment (which I keep putting off) when she is to be farmed out to friends in the country. Sniff!
Joanne - It is indeed a small world. I won't be over to the UK this summer, unfortunately. Have to put up with the violent Italian summer, shut in the house from 11 till 5 because of the heat Image

Looking out the window at grey skies (again), high winds and it certainly looks like rain. However it is meant to get a bit warmer again by the weekend - ah the delights of the British weather. this thread could run and run....

A while ago I bought a large redwood arbor - an wooden lattice affair that arches over a path in my garden. On one side of it grows a pyrocantha, which in the spring has armfuls of white blossoms. They go up the side of the arbor and halfway over the top. These white flowers turn into brilliant red berries in the fall - hence the name pyrocantha. The birds love them.
On the other side of this arbor grows a climbing rose. It is a stunning Queen Elizabeth rose. Absolutely perfect in its configuration, multiflora. The pink roses by the dozens meet the white pyrochantha blossoms in the center of the arbor.
In front of it grows a treeish shrub about my height (5'7") called an Angel's Trumpet. It has a white blossom that hangs down, is the shape of a trumpet, and is about 12 inches long. And under it all sits the cat, a few rose petals on her head.
Ah spring.....

What IS happening with the weather this year?
Here near Rome it should be blazing sunshine since at least a month back, yet we are still facing gloomy and overcast days, with a horrible mugginess, and it's really weird, given that you can normally set your clock by the seasons here.
I mean, in England you expect it, but not here!
I suggest all those of you planning a holiday in Chiantishire (Tuscany to the uninformed) or Umbria wait before booking your rustic villas...or you might try Sicily, where I understand it's considerably warmer than up here.

Springtime has hit again with a vengance here in Seattle! Hubby and I went biking along Alki Beach (Seattle version of a beach--ha!!)yesterday...beautiful weather!!! Anyway, Alki Beach is the Seattle equivalent of Venice Beach (LA)or Brighton (England). Lots of fun "people watching" opportunities. Anyway, the curious thing is that there was bumper to bumper traffic the whole way along the strand...car alarms going off, horns honking, motorcycles revving, and a ton of people roller blading or learning to roller blade. Utter maddness...we had to bike really far to get to any quiet area. I guess Seattle is not a sleepy little city anymore...wow!

That's whats so wonderful about this lake road I bike on - no vehicles allowed. I was watching the swans on their nest this morning. Mom and Dad were exchanging nest sitting duties as I was going by.
She didn't have to nag him either.....LOL

Oh! AAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!! We had a cold front come thru after an 80 degree day. The temperature dropped 30 degrees in 10 minutes, then continued to drop. Then it started to snow and snowed 2 inches and the wind blew really hard. Everything in my gardens (almost everything) is ruined. I thought we were DONE with winter.

Maggie - I feel for you. Our freak last minute snow dump was a real shocker too.
