Ballet slippers point to a new fashion trend

SHE looks like she has just stepped out of ballet class but this is, in fact, the latest fashion trend in street wear.

Femininity and romance are taking over the fashion world, from wide length pants and pretty skirts to the ballet slipper and headband.

Veronika Maine marketing and public relations manager Kirsty Brockhoff said the look this season was "gently eclectic and strongly individual".

"Feminine paisley, floral and stripe prints in soft shades of apricot, blush, khaki and vanilla add a touch of vintage romance to practical pieces," she said.

Ms Brockhoff said wide-leg trousers and gentle wrap tops were the signature style of Veronika Maine and helped to create the "ballet girl" look.

btw, repetto also made some very ballet-looking walking-shoes (complete with the ribbon, etc). other than the sole, i almost cant differentiate it w/ my slippers

Oh dear...

I want to write upfront that I am ALL for ballerina fashion! But in this era of Super Size Me meals, I wonder how this new trend will go over in North America? Somehow I just can’t envision many women with the bodies to dress to the 9s in a tutu like the very lovely Winona Ryder! Tutus may be very fashionable but I wonder how many opportunities women will have to wear them? It’s not something you would want to wear to the office or even on a night out on the town. I believe it’s best that real ballerinas wear tutus in an opera house or the privacy of my home!

Winona, are you doing anything tonight? Would you like to watch Swan Lake with me?
