In an overwhelming vote, the Pennsylvania State House voted to make polka the state's official dance:
http://web.philly.com/content/inquirer/2000/06/06/
city/SDANCE06.htm
[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited June 24, 2000).]

well, this one is certainly stirring up some discussion, isn't it?
understandable, really... Image
an unrelated article re Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet Society - well, it IS pennsylvania, and i don't think it warrants starting its own thread...: http://web.philly.com/content/inquirer/2000/06/15/city/EDANCE15.htm

Oh well, probably a better choice than having the 'funky chicken' as your state dance (for the popular dance historians out there).

so stuart, now that you've BEEN there: what would california's official dance be?!!!!! Image
australia's official dance might well be a drunken stumble...sad to say - but then my perspective is probably affected just now, by having had a staurday night's disturbed sleep due to all the loud parties (& domestic disputes) apparently going on in the vicinity. (no, i WASN'T invited -to either- and i'm GLAD! Image )

If it's any consolation, I'm typing this at 2.45am as I was woken up by the next door neighbours. Oh yes, they're Australian by the way.
National dance of California? Hmm...perhaps the Silicon Samba?

You know, I think this might be a more interesting topic if we renamed this thread "Official State dances." I wonder how many countries and states actually have an official dance.
