SF Examiner Sold To New Owner

Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO -- Billionaire investor and Qwest Communications founder Phil Anschutz has purchased the San Francisco Examiner from the Fang family, and intends to rebuild the once-mighty daily, the parties announced Thursday.

I think it is a good thing. He has the resources and has been very good to Denver.

The billionaire is not without controversy (mostly consisting of the usual accusations made at billionaires for peddling influence for financial gain) but the Anschutz family does have deep resources and the foresight to support deserved causes that normally don't get enough attention, such as Major League Soccer and a slew of nonprofit organizations. Witness:

- The Anschutz Family Foundation

But, um, why is this topic in fun stuff?

Wish to heck someone would buy the Chron - it's a real mess...

Now the story about the Chron should definitely be in the Fun Stuff forum...

Part of the reason I find this "fun" is that Hearst and Anschutz are well matched in available resources. A good, old-fashioned newspaper war might well be the ticket to improving both the Chronicle and the Examiner.

Francis, you are one insighful man. Given that the SF Chronicle seems to have stopped fact-checking their articles and given Anschutz's attention to detail, we'll see if the Chronicle shapes up...

I agree with Azlan that this would be better in "Issues". Copying the topic there - please carry on the discussion.
