August 1962, and Scotsman readers are outraged to see people dancing the twist during the Edinburgh Tattoo ... Sir - On Saturday night I watched the Tattoo on television and what a fine performance it was too! But why did it have to be ruined by that dreadful exhibition of the twist? A tattoo is a military display to the accompaniment of stirring music by massed bands and the pipes and drums. What has the twist got to do with that?
