Post subject:  What do they look for in Rome Opera Ballet Company...?

Hi everyone,

I'm Canadian, but I'm hoping to dance in Carla Fracci's ballet company once I'm finished with school, or the ballet company of Teatro San Carlo in Napoli...
Does anyone know exactly what kind of dancers they look for? I am Vagonava trained, I also study character/ballroom dance. I am only 5"0 and have been told that my small height is a problem since I have stopped growing. Any information that anyone might have on these two companies is great, I really need to know what they prefer. If you cannot write me in English, I also speak Italian. Thank you!! Grazie!!

Wow, you’ve reached your 2nd post already! Try visiting their websites. Unfortunately, I know for a fact ballet companies and dancers are very sensitive about revealing their weight and height. Good luck. Perhaps you will spurt a little. You’re better off being 5 foot than 6 foot! Do they have elevator pointe shoes in ballet?

Perhaps someone could better advise you in the student forum. I would also ask for help from your ballet coaches. They should be able to provide some advice as to which companies to apply to.

I think that is good advice - contact the company directly because if they are having auditions, that information should be available in the audition announcement.

Meanwhile, I think this is best in the Students' Questions and Experience forum. So shall we meet again down there...

Again, I think you should contact the company directly and/or try to find their audition announcements. Most companies will specifiy height and experience requirements in the audition notice.

So, you might be best advised to write the company and ask if they have any information for potential auditionees. I would think they should have the information readily at hand as it's better to make sure the requirements are known ahead of time rather than have to sort through people at the audition.
