Sissonne, I think when you reach a certain level, the type of work you describe is permissible, if you have your teacher's blessing. But before you get to pirouettes or other centre work, it is essential to warm up completely. That means whatever pre-barre work you usually do, and a FULL BARRE. In many cases, if a student feels the need to work on pirouettes, then they work only on pirouettes, without sufficient preparation. And any jump work should be done on a proper dance floor to avoid injury. Pointe work, especially for beginners, should be monitored by the teacher,IMHO.<P>The main thing is to confer with your teacher as she/he will know what is best for the individual student.<P>We respect all points of view here, and appreciate your comments.
