i danced for about 8 years when i was very young (from age 4 to 12)-- very casual, once-a-week classes in tap, jazz, and ballet. in high school i took up fencing and now, after 4 years of fencing and many years since my last dance class, i am planning to take up a college course comprised of a beginning ballet class and a beginning modern class, each twice a week.

i LOVE dancing and miss it so much, but i am, however, v. self-conscious/nervous about my pretty large calf and thigh muscles and relative loss of flexibility. any advice here? i am kind of stocky.

thanks, guys, for any tips you have to give me.

Hi disarmedfae and welcome to CriticalDance.

With your 8 years dance experience, albeit from a few years ago, plus your fencing, I suspect that you will be one of the most adept in beginning ballet and modern classes.

Certainly your teacher will be looking for dedication and ability to take correction. So my advice is to do your best and enjoy your class - it's you that you are dancing for.

I agree with Stuart. I think you will find that in your class there will be all kinds of people, different shapes, sizes, some flexible, some strong.

Go for it and enjoy it!
