Hey there!!
I read earlyer that doing lots of dance work on your own can be bad for you. My studio does not offer dance over the summer and I want to work harder because I know these years are extremly important to my dancing. What are some good thigns to be doing on my own? What should I stay away from! Any informantion would be great! Thank you!
* Lauren *

Lauren - I know just how you feel...its so hard not to be dancing and working - just when you want to improve.
First let me say, it can be a good thing to take some time off - a couple of weeks. The body needs to rest, as does our mind.
The problem with working on our own is that bad habits creep in - even for professional dancers - even for teachers. That's why everyone needs a good teacher to watch and catch those problems. We think we are doing it right ...but...those little bad habits sneak in.
So I would suggest that first you give yourself a rest....and then, perhaps, if you really can't find a class anywhere...give yourself a very basic barre. Nothing fancy. Just basic things. Work as carefully as you can. Make sure you are very well warmed up before doing any stretching. Keep that simple and gentle too.
You don't want to get injured and then have to begin the dance year with an injury.
