Hi everyone,

I am a 22 year old modern dancer who jsut finished my BFA in Contemporary dance at SFU, Vancouver BC (Canada). I am looking for a good professional or pre-professional summer intensive program with a modern technique focus that is located in the US or Canada and is about 2-6 weeks long. I would like to be dancing about 4-6 hours daily. I am also interested in a workshop that incorporates compositional work. Any ideas? ( I am thinking of something for next summer) :p

I should also add that while I want to be taking ballet classes as well, I do not have any experience or interest in dancing on pointe. I am also interested in an intensive that offers bodywork (ie pilates, yoga, therapeutic work etc). I know that there have been many posting about summer intensives, but they all seem to be ballet-based - and I am definitely not a ballerina, nor do I have any interest in my career heading in that direction. ;)

Not that there's anything wrong with being a ballerina, it's just not the right choice for me personally.

I'm in pretty much the same situation as you and have been doing my own research (including posting here-thanks for all your suggestions) and have come up with a pretty good list so far: Jacobs Pillow Contemporary program, Ailey, Ballet Creole, Toronto Dance theatre, Philadanco, American Dance Festival, Savage Jazz Company, Whitman College
That's what I've come up with.
Happy hunting!!

Thanks a lot violin (if I may call you by your first name) for sharing your researches with us. Do you have Internet addresses for further information from these institutions?

Paul Taylor has a summer program.

Also, searching other threads on this forum, I found a reference to a summer program at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance; follow the link posted immediately below for details.

Okay, wish I'd found this link prior to posting, but here is a Dance Spirit magazine listing of summer modern programs:

There's Concord Summer Stages Dance near Boston. I've seen posters for it for the last few years, but otherwise know little about it.
