When I look at ballet dancers I wonder why they are that small and slim. Are ballet teachers looking for a specific height and weight in a young girl or guy to do ballet?!? I would love to be a ballet dancer but I don't want to embarrass myself if there is not even a chance for me. If there is a specific weight then I will try to get there to be a dancer.

Fairy Dancer, you ask good questions.

I'm moving this to our "Students' Questions" forum, where I am sure you will get equally good answers.

Click on the link at the top left to get there.

Hello Fancy Dancer, welcome. Ballet teachers do look for certain charateristics in dancers who want to go professional. Body type and shape as well as proportion. There are taller dancers as well as smaller. I am (or was) 5'1 and was in a company with dancers who were 5'9 or more. Everyone is tall to me :)

There is no wrong size if you just want to study for the joy of it.
