I'd like to improve my confidence in myself when I dance.

My teacher told me last week that i'm "a beautiful dancer"... i was extremely shocked but it gave me a confidence boost for the show in January.
I generally find it difficult to feel confident when i am dancing even though i love it. I'd like to perform at my best in the show we are doing but i feel 2nd best next to my 3 clasmates who are very talented.

Sorry this is long... i just don't know what to do!!

Hiya PD,

I have the same problem. Although I love to dance, I always find it hard to have confidence in myself...I don't really know why.

Personally, I think it's because I constantly compare myself to other dancers but the thing is ... every dancer is different & unique in their own way. I'm slowly starting to learn that the way I dance is beautiful. There will always be a dancer that has that "perfect" turnout or that energy but that is them, they probably look at you and think the same. Dance how you dance, not how you think you should dance.

Sp just believe in yourself and obviously, as soon as you get on stage the confidence is there..that is when you need it most.
lets face it we all like to have a few compliments once in a while ;-)

but like PD, and tips or advice would be appreciated here to.

Hope it helps.x x x

The most important thing is to enjoy what you are doing. Although competition exists and can be healthy, don't let it overtake and overrun why you are dancing in the first place...the joy you experience after all the hard work! You make your performance your own after all the rehearsing and the coaching...

And the more you do it (dancing and performing), the more experience you gain and more confidence along with it. Every performer gets nerves. It's how you deal with and channel that energy that makes a difference. Decide that you will have control over your dancing and not it over you!
