I would love to hear from all you wonderful people out there how would you demonstrate a Tendu which would help students with the understanding of tendu's.

1. I personally stress the importance of turnout.
2. Posture
3. Use of entire leg
4. Use of the metatarsals

Any ad ons to the list would be greatly appreciated. :)

If the tendu is without a plie, I like to remind the students how important it is to be very lifted or "pulled up" in the supporting hip to facilitate the working leg coming into the fifth with ease. If the tendu uses a plie, I like the brush of the tendu to begin from the bottom of the plie.

Going into more detail in your first point, Spangles, it's important to think of turnout as something that initiates the battement tendu. This is easy to feel in first position. Think of directional arrows that constantly come from behind your thighs, pass between the thighs and continue circling around to the back again, so that the inside of both thighs are continually working to come to the front. Only then do you let the working leg start to slide out. Remember to keep the feeling when you bring the leg back to first or fifth, and don't let the effort to turn out the moving leg make you neglect the supporting leg.

To add to your list I would say to push against the floor when you tendu. :)
