Arts and Business is an organisation that brings together arts organisations and businesses for sponsorship, but always with additional links such as the one described below:<P><B>Why Braveheart now dances to a new tune</B> <BR>Scottish number-cruncher is company secretary for Asian dance group. Deputy Business Editor Philip Williams reports on how a former accountant is combining the worlds of roadside recovery and Asian dance for The Birmingham Post. <P><BR>Martin Connor started work with Arts & Business with trepidation.<P>A down-to-earth Scot, with the daily responsibility of hundreds of RAC patrols, he was asked whether he would help out with a business plan for an Asian arts group in Birmingham.<P>'I really hadn't a clue what I was getting involved with. They were into things I had never heard of before.'<P>But he liked the people, liked the commitment to the community and, on the selfish level, liked the board experience he could add to his CV.<P><A HREF="" TARGET=_blank><B>click for more</B></A><BR><p>[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited March 06, 2002).]

Arts & Business is how I ended up on the Board of JazzXchange. For those unsure how to pierce the world of the arts a little deeper than just enjoying as a member of the audience, Arts & Business can be very helpful. The organisation introduces professionally trained people to boards of arts organisations to provide certain skills that may be lacking. Very often a Board of Directors of a theatre or dance company, for example, can be strong on ideas and creativity, but less organised in terms of legal reporting or accounts interpretation.
