Image
Image

Melanie Nix is one of our reviewing team and also a fine dancer with a busy schedule that has included AMP, 'The Snowman' and currently 'Carmen' in The Royal Albert Hall. She also writes for and Dance Europe. Phew!!
So imagine my pleasant surprise to discover that there is yet another string to Melanie's bow. Her exhibition is at The Bloomsbury and is close to the Underground: Euston Station, Warren Street or Euston Square. Why not give it a try.

WORK OF WHITE - MELANIE NIX
(NAME YOUR OWN PRICE)
The UCL Bloomsbury Theatre Foyer, 15 Gordon Street WC1H 0AH, 1st March to 30th April

Melanie Nix aims to create sculptural wall-art using plaster and fabric, with texture and simplicity at the core of her designs. The exhibition is named after her very first work created for a dead space in her flat which she jokingly referred to as her 'Work of White - A Lunar Landscape' - a three dimensional piece involving folds of white fabric dipped in wet plaster and wrapped around a frame. Her work is inspired by interior design, with pieces conceived with certain room types in mind, be it minimal or modern Victorian. Ultimately a piece should complement a room rather than dominate it. Says Melanie, "I want people to simply enjoy the colour, form and texture of a piece and how it adds to the space surrounding it, the scheme into which it has been put." Recycling is a theme which inspires much of her work and you will find old denim recycled into wall hangings, sheets and blankets appearing in her sculptural pieces and fabric remnants from clothing and scarves becoming fabric panels.
A dancer by trade and currently appearing in Carmen at the Royal Albert Hall (and assisting Carmel Smith on , this will be Melanie's first exhibition. All pieces will be for sale but buyers will be invited to name their own price. After all, art is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it!
Melanie's work will be on display in the UCL Bloomsbury theatre foyer from the 1st March to the end of April. The foyer will be open to the public on performance days or by appointment. Please call the box office on 0207 388 8822 for details of performance days . If you are able to attend the reception on the 12 March please RSVP by email or phone to:
or: 07979 282 424
The UCL Bloomsbury
15 Gordon Street
WC1H 0AH
Five minutes walk from Euston Station, Warren Street or Euston Square.
