Dance regime helps to change physique quickly
Get fit, look fit: your five-day guide to Bolshoi Fitness, by Jennai Cox, Fitness Editor in The Times.
Day 1
BOLSHOI Fitness instructors intend to persuade more men that ballet fitness can be a physically active challenge.
With talk of co-ordination, strength and movement over ballet and dance, Gennya Goremykin, the former principal Bolshoi dancer, believes his own version of ballet-based fitness training has considerable male appeal. Launched last month at the Harbour Club in London, where another six-week programme begins in June, the hour-long Bolshoi Fitness classes have already attracted a number of men and all of Goremykin’s private clients are male.
click for more
*******************************************
Day 2
THE Bolshoi Fitness programme, launched in the UK last month, is based on a training schedule used by touring Russian ballet dancers with minimal space and time to practise. Most of the exercises and moves, adapted from those that give dancers their strong and slender bodies, can be done without the need for apparatus or much space.
By learning to hold in the abdominal muscles and correct the way the body is positioned, those who try Bolshoi Fitness find the shape of their physique changing fast, according to Gennya Goremykin, a former principal Bolshoi dancer who is teaching the regime in the UK. Using techniques practised and perfected over hundreds of years, the fitness routine gives participants a full body workout and greater awareness of their physical needs, he says.
click for more
