On ballet.co, Brendan McCarthy, an experienced TV Producer, goes behind the scenes for the recording of the RB 'Don Q' for the BBC. Well worth a look as you prepare to watch the TV recording.
Here is the link to the article.

I haved taped Don Q to watch but managed to catch the last 20 minutes or so. It looked like an excellent production and I am only sorry that I did not see it live. I can't make to get chance to watch the whole thing through.

Image
Nijinska's 'Les Noces'
As always, many thanks Pete for this research. Saturday is quite a day for dance on TV especially as there is so much on terrestial stations. The 'Rite of Spring' with 'episodes danced by the Richard Alston Dance Company' sounds interesting, but I wonder how much we will actually see. Alston certainly loves Stravinsky and his distinctive take on 'Petrouska' was performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall a couple of years ago.
The most remarkable work on offer in my view is Nijinska's 'Les Noces' from the early 1920'. Influenced by the Russian and Continental European avant-garde this work still looks as fresh as new paint. It was not enjoyed by audiences at the time and it was only thanks to Ashton that the work entered the rep. of the Royal Ballet in the 60's I believe. When I saw it on stage last year the Royal certainly did it justice.

[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited January 20, 2002).]

Image
Many thanks Pete. The 90 minutes of Fonteyn and Nureyev looks the best bet, but a bit lean apart from that.

Image
Richard Alston workshop at the National Dance Teachers Association 1998
Thanks again Pete. The Alston piece 'Wildlife' for Rambert is not one I've heard of. I wonder if it is from his time when he was AD at the Company. Does anyone know more?
