Following a meeting of the Board of Governors and Management of ENB, it has been announced that the planned production of 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses" will not go ahead for the time being. Evidently the decision was taken as part of an examination of the Company's activities as a whole in the current financial climate.

In other words, ENB has not been very specific. The current financial climate is better than it has been for at least 2 years so I can only assume funding issues.

The production with choreography by Michael Corder was to have received its world premiere at the Mayflower Southampton in October 2004. Instead the autumn tour will now feature Nureyev's 'Romeo and Juliet' and Scarfe/Hampson 'Nutcracker.'

What a pity! Having just seen the play I was rather looking forward to that. The story has the potential for lots of juicy pas de deux.

THE English National Ballet has been forced to cancel its lavish £500,000 production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses after concern over its finances.

The ballet’s Christmas season, on which it relies to fund its work for the rest of the year, made £760,000 less than in previous years.
