Alaknanda Samarth, a pioneering actress and teacher from India, based in Europe. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and was the first Indian actress in a major classical role at the National Theatre, London, 1975. She also taught at the National School of Drama (NSD) Delhi, 1979 to 1981. Acclaimed solo work includes KUNTI and The HUMAN VOICE, choreographed by dance legend Chandralekha; cinema performances include Kumar Shahani's KHAYAL GATHA, with Birju Maharaj.
