Laban

London, SE8 3DZ
WWW.LABAN.ORG

Laban Summer School 2003 offers two weeks of intensive dance training with a world-class faculty in the world’s largest purpose-built centre for contemporary dance. The Summer School will take place from Monday 14 July – Friday 25 July 2003 at Laban’s new building in South East London. Visit www.laban.org for further information.

This year’s Laban Summer School offers an expanded programme of courses including choreography, Tanztheater, fitness and health, physical theatre, classical ballet, Jazz Dance, Labanotation, and a performance project with Jerwood Award-winner Ben Wright.
Participants can create a programme suited to their own interests, with an opportunity to focus on one particular strand of study: choreological studies, dance health, performance, somatic approaches, or design for dance.

Teachers on Summer School 2003 comprise members of Laban’s own faculty, including Rosemary Butcher, Gill Clarke, Rosalind Newman, and Emma Redding; plus guest teachers such as Linda Hartley, Wendy Houstoun and Benji Reid.

The range of courses available combined with a choice of experience levels means that there is something for everyone from beginners to dance professionals; and there is a special performance project aimed at young people aged 16-18 years. Fees are £450.00 which includes all classes as well as additional performances and events but does not include accommodation. To book a place at Laban Summer School 2003 visit www.laban.org or, for people without internet access, contact Julia Mirkin on 020 8691 8600.

Further information:

Additional performances and events at Laban Summer School 2003 include New Connectivity: Laban Research Conference (19 July); performances by Transitions Dance Company (15 July), professional dance schools platform (17 July); performances by Wendy Houstoun and Benji Reid (23 – 24 July); plus the Summer School sharing (25 July).

This will be the first Summer School held at Laban’s new building in Deptford, South East London. The state-of-the-art facilities boast 13 dance studios, a 300-seat theatre, library and archive, and a dance health suite including one of the UK’s largest Pilates studios as well as an osteopath, physiotherapist and remedial masseur. All of the facilities will be available to Summer School participants, some additional costs may apply.

Participants at Summer School must be aged 16 years or older. Limited accommodation is available through Laban but early booking is recommended.
