Danger, children at play MARY BRENNAN for The Herald (Glasgow)finds an ample helping of festival fun awaiting young people in Edinburgh.
A Danish Hamlet done by two actors and a couple of double bass players. An Italian dance piece about family dysfunction that spirals towards tragedy. A daredevil circus, from Canada, inspired by cartoon slapstick that ends explosively. All of it rooted in tradition, or in the recognisable fabric of everyday life, and then whisked sideways or topsy-turvy to make it unlike anything you'd expect. And after you experience it, you see everything just a little bit differently.
This is the stuff that top-notch festivals are made of. Indeed, you'll find these attractions in the brochure for an Edinburgh-based festival that opens not in August, but in May.
