TRAILBLAZERS
FELLOWSHIPS FOR AFRICAN DANCE ARTISTS

Dance UK and ADAD launch their first ever Fellowships for African Dance Artists. Made possible by Creative Renewal, the ESF Equal funded programme led by Metier, the programme aims to help more artists working in African Dance to realise their dreams.

The Trailblazers Programme will provide 4 dance artists with a bursary of £1,000 to contribute to the cost of classes, training, equipment, research trips and other professional development needs. In addition there will also be a programme of skills training that will be developed with the Trailblazers and could include career planning, articulating your vision and leadership.

Criteria
Any dance artist working in dance forms with origins or significant influences in African, Caribbean or African-American dance forms including jazz and street dance forms. Applicants must have some professional experience as a dancer, choreographer or artistic director, and can be at any stage of their career. They must also be a member of a professional organisation such as Dance UK, The Place Artists Development, Foundation for Community Dance or ADAD.

Further information and application forms are available from Dance UK. The closing date for applications is 7 April 2003, and interviews will be held in the week of 21 April.

Here are the details of the scheme:


TRAILBLAZERS

Fellowships for African Dance Artists

The bursaries provide dance artists working on dance forms of the African Diaspora the opportunity to develop their careers. The bursaries can be used to contribute the cost of classes, training, equipment, research trips and other professional development needs. Fellows will also be assigned a mentor and will follow a programme of skills training.

Bursaries
4 bursaries are available of up to £1,000

Who is eligible
· Applicants should be working in dance forms with origins or significant influences in African, Caribbean or African-American including jazz and street dance
· Applicants should be resident/based in the UK
· Applicants should be a member of a professional association such as Dance UK, ADAD, Foundation for Community Dance, The Place Artists Development and have some professional experience as a dancer, choreographer or artistic director.

How to apply
A proposal should be sent to Dance UK with the following information:

1. Name, full contract details (address, telephones, e-mail)
2. Outline of career to date – training, professional experience, continuing professional development/training undertaken, membership of professional association(s). Please highlight your achievements
3. Your vision as a dance artist
4. How you see your career developing and how a Fellowship might help
5. Outline of how you would use the bursary.
6. Please attach your CV

Application Deadline
The deadline for applications is 7 April 2003 and interviews will be held in the week of the 21 April 2003
