The exhibition is organised by Luke & A Gallery and sponsored by Fund for Russian Contemporary Art XXI Century.

The exhibition will present the best of St Petersburg photography between 1980 and 2003.

A Black & White St Petersburg definitive catalogue is available - a special edition publication marking the 300th anniversary of St Petersburg - with 50 full-page reproductions.

Reimagining St Petersburg Educational Programme

These two sequential events explore St Petersburg past and present throught th eeyes of artist, writers and musicians. A guided tour by Ludmilla Lipskaya the curator of the "Black and White Petersburg" exhibition at Leighton House on April 1st, will allow participants the opportunity for in-depth study. Anthony Cross will lecture on "The English Embankment and the Englsih in St Petersburg". The evening will end with a cocktail reception.

At the Gallery on 2nd Apeil the focus shifts to the present and immediate past. The day will begin with a slide lecture on the architecture of
St Petersburg and the city's palaces by David Watkin, Profesoor of Architecture, Cambridge University. The Alexander Barabanov will view St Petersburg through the works of contemporary Russian artists and photographers. These pictures offer an excellent opportunity for collectors ina market that is quickly climbing in value. Participants will enjoy a lunch of Russian cuisine.

A talk and reading of a new translation of "The Bronze Horseman" by Russia's greatest poet, Pushkin, follows and a concert celebrating the lyrics of St Petersburg concludes the day.

A photographic history of ballet at the Mariinsky Theatre from 19th century cabinet cards and early photgraphs printed from glass plates to modern pictures taken during performances, in the studio and on tour. Rare photgraphs of Petipa, Nijinksy, Pavlova, Nureyev, Baryshnikov and contemporary dancers. Plus a special section dedicated to the Vaganova Ballet Academy.
