Great news for a ground-breaking dance artist
Jonathan Burrows has been awarded $20,000 by the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts, New York in recognition for his ongoing contributions to contemporary dance. From londondance.com
Established by John Cage and Jasper Johns in 1963, the Foundation each year invites distinguished artists and arts professionals to propose exceptional individuals and performing groups whom they feel deserve an unrestricted award in support of their work.
Jonathan Burrows started his career as a soloist with the Royal Ballet in London and went on to form the Jonathan Burrows Group in 1988 as a platform to present his own productions.
His work has since taken him around the world, regularly showcasing his ground-breaking compositions to audiences around Europe and North and South America.
