Congratulations to DanceEast and here's hoping that they get the award. Dance remains a Cinderella art form and the recognition of the excellent work of DanceEast will be a boost not only for them, but also for the National Dance Agency sector generally. DANCEEAST is nominated for
‘BEST AMBASSADOR FOR THE ARTS’ award
DanceEast, the Ipswich-based National Dance Agency for the East of England, has been nominated as a finalist in East England Arts’ ‘6 of the Best’ Awards. DanceEast supports dance professionals, offers an extensive outreach and education programme and is one of this year’s outstanding highlights that is now vying for the £10,000 prize money in this category.
In addition to popular weekly dance classes and workshops across Suffolk, some of DanceEast’s more recent performance highlights have included Boys In Babergh - the hugely successful football and dance project for young people produced in association with Ipswich Town Football Club; Yolande Snaith’s village hall tour of Very Yellow, and performances at Snape Maltings by Mark Morris and A Slice of Paradise by France’s Compagnie Montalvo-Hervieu. Akram Khan will perform his critically-acclaimed new work - Kaash at Snape on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 November.
One of the judges, Yasmin Shariff, an architect and board member of the East of England Development Agency, said “DanceEast stood out for us because it consistently brings the world’s best dancers to audiences across the region. All the nominees are demonstrating the East of England’s vibrant arts scene and leading the way in bringing creativity into everyone’s lives.” Andrea Stark, regional executive director of East England Arts said, “The panel has had a tough job in selecting the final nominations. We had over 500 entries from across the arts spectrum, which demonstrated our region’s talents and shows how our creative industries are making a substantial contribution to the region’s economy and development.”
The winner of each category will be announced at a showcase presentation evening on 26 November, to be broadcast by Anglia TV on the evening of Sunday 1 December. On that evening two further winners will be announced: ‘Simply the Best’, and ‘Best New Talent’, which is shortly to be opened up to public voting. The ‘6 of the Best’ Awards recognise the excellence of arts organisations, projects and individuals in the Eastern counties – Norfolk, Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire.
