A message from London Arts of interest to all the performers and dance companies in the London area.
London Arts and the Arts Council of England make possible much fine dance that would never see the light of day otherwise. While acknowledging that we can learn from the US on involving the private sector in dance funding, beware the Siren voices of those who advocate the wholesale adoption of the US system. The small arts would suffer as they do today across the Atlantic.
Dance Unit Assessor System & Calendar
General Information
The purpose of the Dance Calendar and Dance Assessment System is to ensure that all dance work funded by, or seeking funding from, London Arts is sympathetically and knowledgeably assessed. This means covering the widest variety of performances over the 33 London boroughs.
Each month we put together a calendar for our assessors from information that you give us.
At present the dance unit has a team of around 60 assessors. Our assessor recruitment policy is to attract a wide range of people from all over London, with a variety of skills, interests and specialities.
We ask our assessors to write reports for us about the dance work they have seen. You can then ask us to send you copies of the report.
Please note that attendance of an assessor is not guaranteed but, I do try my best to get everything covered.
What you need to do
If you want your work to be seen by an assessor; email, fax or write to me before 5.00pm on the 24th day of each calendar month.
Please send me:
1) Date of your show or project
2) Title of your show or project
3) Brief description (no more than 2 sentences)
2) Company or Artist Name
3) Location of event
4) Box office number/ Contact number for more information
5) Cost (including concessions)
6) Disability Access Information
I hope to hear from you in the near future and remember to spread the word!
Best wishes

James Hurst
Dance Administrator

London Arts
2 Pear Tree Court
London, EC1R 0DS

Direct Line: 020 7608 6134
Direct Fax: 020 7340 1090
mailto:james.hurst@lonab.co.uk
Website: http://www.arts.org.uk/londonarts

NEWS
London Arts joined with the other regional arts board and the Arts Council of England on 1 April 2002 to create a new, single arts funding and development organisation.
