CASH BOOST FOR DISABLED DANCE GROUP By I-CHENG CHAN for The Plymouth Herald
A charity which brings the joy of dance to people with disabilities has scooped almost £10,000 to set up an accredited training programme thought to be the first of its kind in Europe.
The Plymouth-based Integrated Dance Company has already piloted two dance training programmes, First Movement and First Steps, which have been fully accredited by the Open College Network South West.
The third, Moving and Stepping, which is currently being put together, will act as a foundation for the other two, completing the creation of a three-year dance training programme for disabled people.
To take the project forward, the Department for Work and Pensions has awarded IDC £9,340 - part of £2.3 million of funding for projects to celebrate the European Year of Disabled People 2003.
