Always sad news when someone dies so before their time. One tends to think of these guys as being permanent fixtures and fittings in the world and one forgets they are mortals.

Maurice Gibb
Obituary from The Stage

Maurice Gibb was the co-founder, with his siblings Barry and Robin, of the Bee Gees, one of the best-selling musical groups of all time. In contrast to his brothers, who shared and alternated the spotlight as lead vocalists, Maurice was almost exclusively a backing vocalist for his four-decade career, providing a key part of the harmony singing for his brothers.

Famous for their close harmonies and original sound, the Bee Gees were probably best known for their contributions to the Saturday Night Fever album which sold more than 40 million copies.

Maurice Gibb was born on December 22, 1949, in Douglas, Isle of Man. His brother Robin, a fraternal twin, was born two hours ahead of him. Their father, Hugh, was a bandleader and their mother, Barbara, a professional singer.
