Merce Cunningham in frame for Tate Modern performance
by Cameron Robertson for The Stage

Tate Modern director Nicholas Serota is planning to create a new performance space at the modern and contemporary art gallery.
The director is in talks with legendary American choreographer Merce Cunningham to stage a site-specific performance next year in the London gallery – the UK's second most popular tourist attraction after the British Museum.
Cunningham's company is in the UK performing at the Barbican Centre and at The Place Theatre this autumn. It is understood that the Dance Umbrella festival approached Serota with a view to asking Cunningham to stage new work at the former Bankside power station.
