In association with the Royal Academy of Dance, and as part of the International Celebration of Kenneth MacMillan, the NFT will screen two programmes of rare television material.

MacMillan’s Mayerling (The South Bank Show)
Mon 7 Oct 8.50 NFT2; Thu 17 Oct 8.30 NFT2
MacMillan’s Mayerling, Derek Bailey’s award-winning documentary, gets behind the scenes in the production of one of MacMillan’s most enduring achievements. Mayerling has proved to be one of MacMillan’s most popular productions and, whilst film-makers have tended to glamorise this sordid episode in Hapsburg history, the ballet aimed to present the true events that led to the double suicide. The programme includes interviews with the creative team, rehearsal footage and performances by the original cast (LWT tx 17.6.78. c120 mins). Cast includes David Wall, Lynn Seymour, Merle Park, Georgina Parkinson, Wendy Ellis, Michael Somes, Laura Connor.
Interviews with Kenneth MacMillan, Gillian Freeman, John Lanchbery, Nicholas Georgiadis.
