Press Release:

DOUBLE CONCERTO
WINS PRIZE FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN DANCE

The winners of the Barclays Theatre Awards 2002, presented by the Theatrical
Management Association, were announced at an Awards Ceremony on Sunday
October 13 at the Royal Opera House. These prestigious Awards celebrate
excellence in theatre nationwide. Over 1,000 productions throughout the
country were seen in the course of the judging year.

In the category of Outstanding Achievement in Dance, English National Ballet
received two separate nominations and the Company is delighted to announce
that the winner of this prestigious award is Christopher Hampson's Double
Concerto, described at the awards as "an outstanding new ballet in a fine
year for repertory at English National Ballet"

With its shimmering black, white and silver tutus, a dramatic sculptured set
and scintillating choreography for the principals, soloists and corps de
ballet, Double Concerto received universal acclaim when it was performed on
tour and in London in Autumn 2001 and again at the Royal Opera House in June
2002. Innately classical, musical and entertaining, the ballet can be seen
again by audiences in Southampton, Manchester and London this Autumn /
Winter.

"The best new classical ballet made in this country for years" The Daily
Telegraph

"Effervescent and intoxicating, it's the dance equivalent of uncorking a
bottle of bubbly." The Guardian

"Hampson's stupendous Double Concerto, premiered earlier this season, is the
biggest, brightest and best new British ballet in more than a decade." Time
