New Awards for Dance

Royal Ballet star Deborah Bull and dancer/choreographer Akram Khan joined John Ashford, Theatre Director of The Place, to launch plans for a new £250,000 choreography award scheme, THE PLACE PRIZE, sponsored by Bloomberg, on Thursday 22 January 2004.

The Place Prize, the largest dance competition in Europe, will fund twenty choreographers to make new work with full production, technical and rehearsal facilities and will distribute £100,000 in cash awards to winning choreographers, including a top cash award of £25,000. The competition will be held every other year, and is open to choreographers working in Britain in any contemporary style.
