If you love doo-wop, brightly smiling black folk and good causes, then Kat and the Kings, a musical about youthful hope flowering amid the poisoned terrain of '50s apartheid, is the show for you. If, like me, one too many "sha-la-las" can drive you to distraction, and you tend to think cheeriness plus worthiness equals subtle coerciveness, then you'd be advised to leave the Tricycle's South African seasonal offering well alone.
