Grease - Victoria Palace
By Peter Hepple for The Stage

Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey's musical, originally staged by a non-professional company in a Chicago fringe theatre, has proved so durable since its revival at the Dominion in the
mid-nineties that when it is not on tour it is in the West End.

This says a lot for the basic concept – a pastiche of American youth culture towards the end of the fifties – and for the strength of the songs, themselves pastiche. And it is of some social significance because it celebrates, if that is the right word, the arrival of the teenager as a market force.

Ticket sales soar for Grease
By Helen Tither for Manchester online

LOOKS like Grease is going to be the word in Manchester this Christmas.

The M.E.N. has learnt that ticket sales for the hit West End musical have already soared past the £1million mark, with a month to go before the opening night.

And it seems there is no stopping the Greasemania, with theatre bosses deciding to extend the show starring Jonathan Wilkes and Hayley Evetts for an extra week due to popular demand. Opening on December 17, the show will now run for eight extra performances until January 17. The additional 16,000 tickets will be available from Friday.

Grease
Palace, Manchester
By Natalie Anglesey for The Stage

It is still electrifying. As soon as the box office opened for the Christmas run of Grease at the Palace Theatre, tickets sales went wild and the original run of this musical quickly sold out, taking bookings of £1 million in record-breaking time. The run was immediately extended for a week and that too is practically sold out.
