A Square of Sky
by Donald Hutera in The Times

NOW in its twentieth year, the physical theatre company the Kosh is tackling one of its most ambitious projects to date. A Square of Sky is a multidisciplinary promenade performance based on Janina David’s childhood memoir of survival in the Warsaw ghetto.
With its long, wide main floor and a wrap-around balcony, Hackney’s Round Chapel is a special venue. The sculptor/designer Juginder Lamba makes imaginative use of this great, possibly intimidating space. White sheets, which function as projection screens, hang from the high ceiling. Circus ropes and ladders provide access to the balcony, an area representing a freer society outside the ghetto. Pools of brown earth dot the floor.
