HOLIDAY on Ice, that long-standing paragon of populist skating extravaganzas, began its latest British tour this week.
The impetus behind the show In Concert is a cheery cross-culturalism achieved with a whistle-stop world music tour. After a glance at African roots, artistic director Willy Bietak’s production shuttles to the Americas — a fast carnival scene complete with giant rod puppets glowing in black light, followed by an excursion into jazz territory. After skimming through the Arab world, it simmers in a folky melting pot (Spanish, Louisiana zydeco, Irish) before bubbling over in a glitzy silver-and-gold climax
